Building work underway at West Kirby United Reformed Church

A major refurbishment of West Kirby United Reformed Church has started on site.

Fences have recently been erected around the church, on Meols Drive, as phase one of the building work gets underway.

The development includes a new glazed front entrance, a lounge, toilets, a quiet room and a small crèche. A new glass screen will lead into the main worship area and the pews are being replaced with chairs. The current balcony area is being replaced by a larger room, which will be available for a variety of uses.

Plans also include a new church office and a larger, more welcoming, entrance to the halls along with cycle racks  for hall users. This is the first phase of a major redevelopment of the building. A second phase will include This Phase two will see an enlarged and revamped kitchen with a servery into the halls.

A spokesman for the church said: “Access to the building during construction work will of necessity be changed but hall users should not be unduly affected.

“Church services will be held in the hall once building work commences. We hope that the changes will enable our community to be better served by our building.”
