Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on Column Road in West Kirby, Wirral, around 4.45pm on Sunday, February 7.

Two fire engines attended the incident, together with the Search and Rescue team.

A car driven by a 64-year-old male carrying a 58-year-old female passenger had collided with a lamp post and sandstone wall.

Both occupants of the car were out of the vehicle when firefighters arrived. They were assessed by paramedics at the scene and found to have no apparent injuries, but were taken to Arrowe Park Hospital for precautionary checks.

Firefighters made the vehicle safe and cordoned off the area, after fallen masonry damaged a gas installation unit. They remained at the scene for around an hour and fifteen minutes.
