Drivers in Hoylake and Meols face delays next week thanks to planned water mains cleaning works at three different sites on Birkenhead Road and Market Street.

Temporary traffic lights will be in operation, and Wirral council is forecasting that “slight” delays will be caused, as workmen air-scour the mains.

The work is being carried out by Amey, who repair and maintain water mains for United Utilities. It is provisionally due to begin on Monday (March 7), with works on Birkenhead Road outside The Railway Pub in Meols estimated to take three days.

Work is then due to work a few hundred hards up the road in Hoylake, with work pencilled in to start on Thursday, again for three days.

Finally – and potentially most disruptively – there are plans for four-way temporary lights to be set up on Hoylake’s King’s Gap roundabout. The work there is estimated to begin on Friday, again for three days.

The restrictions will be in place continuously until the work concludes at each site, according to information circulated to residents by Wirral council.
