Local photographer Jon Hall has captured stunning, new aerial footage of sunset at West Kirby beach.

Mr Hall was testing his drone camera last night when he came across a rider training with a pony and trap on the beach.

He said: “We got chatting and I asked him if he thought the horse would be spooked by the drone. He said the horse would be fine and gave me permission to film them so I just followed them across the sands as the sun was setting.”

The footage was filmed using a modified Gopro Hero4 camera mounted on a DJI Phantom 2 drone. The camera hangs below the drone in a gimbal to stabilise the footage and the footage is relayed live to a ground station (monitor) that you see on a tripod at the end of the film.

Jon added: “This means I can see what the camera sees live, which is what allows me to get such accurate footage of fast moving objects such as the horse.

“I’m not a qualified pilot so I can’t film with the drone commercially but I am always on the lookout for fun subjects to film for free like this.”

The horse featured in the film is called ‘Thornton Bronte’ and is stabled at Hayrack Church Farm, between Ellesmere Port and Chester.
