West Kirby father-of-two Greg Wenden has taken over the reins as the new chairman of Hoylake and West Kirby Round Table.

Greg, 42, has taken over from Derek Collie as chairman of the local Round Table, which is 65 years-old and was established in 1951.

The Table’s key events include white water rafting, clay pigeon shooting and pub crawls as well as the Christmas Santa Sleigh which last year raised over £3,500 for local charities.

“It’s an exciting time to be part of Round Table as it is an organisation which is growing and giving more men in Wirral the chance to embrace life to the full,” said Greg.

“I am looking forward to bringing something new to the Table, which will give existing and new members the chance to simply have fun and build long-lasting friendships.”

Greg is the chief technology officer for a financial services company in Wrexham, and was something of a latecomer to the Round Table, only joining three years ago.

“I joined because I wanted to connect with people at home as I felt that I was spending all my time at work and wanted to have more of a social life, as well as be able to give something back to my local community,” said Greg.

“Since then I’ve found out much more about the organisation and what they do nationally as well as internationally. I hadn’t realised that it’s the largest voluntary organisation for young men in the world.

“It would have been great to have been a member when I was younger.”

Established in the UK in 1921, Round Table is open to men aged 18 to 45. Women have a separate Ladies Circle.

The club meets twice a month, on the first and third Thursday, and Greg says all men aged between 18 and 45 are welcome.

“We haven’t finalised our calendar of events for the year ahead yet but if any of your readers would be interested in finding out more they can Like our Facebook page. Our next meeting will be at the Tap in West Kirby at 8pm on Thursday April 7.”
