West Kirby and Hoylake are set to be as warm as Milan as a heatwave arrives in Wirral this weekend.

Temperatures are predicted to soar to highs of possibly 25C on Sunday and Monday as the barbecue weather rolls in.

Rain is forecast for Saturday but by Monday it is expected to have cleared to leave wall-to-wall sunshine and clear blue skies making it as warm as Milan at this time of year.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “Temperatures are set to climb as we head through the weekend. On Saturday highs in the low twenties Celsius are likely for the Wirral area.

“There will be plenty of sunny spells, but there is also the risk of some thundery downpours. Sunday should be mostly dry and often sunny with a smaller chance of seeing a shower. Temperatures will rise further with highs of 24, possibly 25 Celsius.

“Temperatures next week may not be as warm as over the weekend, but are likely to remain above average for May.”
