Local residents have reacted with anger after a number of trees were chopped down at a controversial, new social housing development in West Kirby.
Bridge Court, in Orrysdale Road, will have 40 two-bed apartments, and 8 one-bed apartments available for affordable rent.
Local residents had previously raised concerns that the development could result in the loss of a number of species of trees.
Matt Thomas said: “The trees on the unwanted/oversized development at Orrysdale Road have been chainsawed down after residents continually fought against this place and after them gaining protected status.
“They’ve been fenced off with tree protection signs and been in bloom all year. Why have Magenta Living just done this?”
A spokeswoman for the developers, Magenta Living said: “I can confirm that Magenta Living has worked closely with Wirral Borough Council’s Tree Officer when removing a small number of trees at our new development, Bridge Court in West Kirby.
“The dead trees have been removed and will be replaced with new saplings to ensure the environment remains green for the local residents.”
