A well-known Wirral retailer has come out of retirement to launch a new, discount furniture and gift shop in Hoylake.

Barry Crossman, who ran the “Barry’s Convenience Stores” across Wirral for almost 30 years, has recently opened Quadrant Furniture.

The shop stocks new, painted and French reproduction furniture from the Coach House brand, with many ex-display items available at half price or less.

Barry, who began his career as a trainee manager at Littlewoods, said: “My daughter ran a gift shop in Yorkshire and she started selling furniture, so I would help her out.

“I got to know the suppliers and I couldn’t help but think it would work well in Wirral too, so I decided to give it a go.

“I actually retired eight years ago but this was too good an opportunity to turn down.”

Barry was one of the first people to bring convenience stores to the Wirral almost 40 years ago. He decided to bring the concept back to the UK after discovering convenience stores while travelling around the USA.

He sold up his chain of stores eight years ago to a national brand.

Quadrant Furniture, which is based on The Quadrant near Hoylake Train Station, is open on Friday and Saturdays from 11am-5pm.
