West Kirby bistro, West 34, officially relaunched last night as “the destination seafood restaurant for the Wirral”.

The Banks Road restaurant, which was formally Scogs, opened last March after a major refurbishment and was renowned for its healthy, regionally-sourced produce.

However, the owners quickly realised their seafood dishes were proving the most popular and decided to transform the venue into a dedicated seafood restaurant.

The business, which is owned by local businessman Jesper Toft, was previously run by Jesper’s daughter, Victoria and her husband Billy Preston.

Following the couple’s decision to move to London, the restaurant is now being run by Stuart Snowden, who has previously worked at Soho House and helped launch Russian restaurateur Igor Krayushkin’s Crab Tavern.

Stuart said: “We were amazed to discover there are no seafood restaurants in Wirral.

“Seafood dishes have always been popular on the menu so we decided we wanted to create the destination seafood restaurant for the Wirral.

“West Kirby is enjoying something of a foodie renaissance at the moment. There are some great places to eat and drink and this is great for the area.

“I’ve been working in London for years and wanted to move back home to the North West and this opportunity came up and I was delighted to be part of the team.”

The restaurant, which has employed a new team of chefs,  officially launches the new menu from Friday April 14th.

Highlights include a £35-a-head Grand Fruit de Mer seafood platter and blackened Mahi Mahi.
