A West Kirby designer is putting calligraphy back on the map with her popular Instagram feed.
Maeve Brooks has been running her successful business, Too Wordy, from her home studio since 2013.
Her work is showcased through her popular Instagram feed, which has over 23,000 followers.
The designer creates paper goods, stationery and prints with her instantly recognisable style, which use quirky quotes written in her own bespoke, hand inked, fonts.
The inspiration for the business was Maeve’s own wedding to her husband Geoff Brooks.
She said: “I got married in 2013 and I designed all the invitations and stationery for the wedding myself.
“I enjoyed it so much that I wondered whether I could turn it into a business. I’d dabbled with graphic design at college and I’ve always been arty but I am basically self taught.
“I just followed my instincts and things just grew from there.”
Maeve has worked on commissions from across the world and now sells her products via the website, Not On The High Street.
She added: “My work is definitely influenced by living by the coast in West Kirby. I’m very inspired by the seaside and by the sea and nature.
“I’ve also always loved calligraphy since I was a child and my work has just evolved that way. I work by hand in pen and ink initially and then I digitally edit it.
“I do spend a lot of time curating my Instagram account and it just seems to have connected really well with people. My goal for the Summer is to reach 15,000 followers.”

When Maeve gets a rare break from working, she enjoys eating out locally with her family at Sweet Pea Cafe, Hickory’s and The Wro Lounge.
