Hoylake’s Boating Lake has officially reopened following long-awaited clean-up and repair work.
The boating lake is much loved and used by community groups and visitors but was in desperate need of repairs.
Chairperson of Hoylake Model Boat Club John Bennett, said: “This project is an excellent example of what can be achieved when we work together. Local residents have already said how pleased they are to see our model boats back on the newly refurbished lake.
“Hoylake Model Boat Club have worked in partnership with the Wirral West Constituency Team, United Utilities, Amey and local stakeholders to spruce up Hoylake Boating Lake for the local community and visitors to Hoylake.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported us with this project, it will make a real difference to those using the lake in the future.”
The lake was officially re-opened by the Mayor, Cllr Geoffrey Watt when everyone involved in the project came together to celebrate the long awaited completion of Hoylake’s much loved boating lake.
United Utilities and their contractor, Amey, emptied, cleaned and re-filled the lake as part of the community project.
Once the water was removed it was found the lining of the lake had deteriorated so this had to be replaced by Wirral Council’s Parks and Countryside team, while the hot summer meant it could not be refilled immediately due to the need to conserve water supplies.
As part of the improvements the Hoylake Model Boat Club re-painted the lake wall while the Wirral West Constituency Team coordinated the project ensuring all groups, partners, residents and visitors were updated throughout the process.
