A new Order and Collect scheme is under way at West Kirby Library, as the service begins to return to business.

Library buildings were closed in March due to coronavirus, and members encouraged to ‘loan’ books from the online service.

Members can now pre-order up to eight paperback, hardback and/or talking books at a time – either their own choice, a selection from a specific genre or author or a ‘lucky dip’ where librarians will handpick a range of three to four surprise titles.

Residents can place an order online or over the phone and head to a library to collect their books when notified they are available for collection – but it is still not possible to enter the library for browsing.

Cllr Pat Hackett, Leader of Wirral Council, said: “The launch of Order and Collect means books can be collected from the library in a quick and safe way, that is in line with government guidance.

“This service is not only a solution to help keep members safe when they visit the library but is another string to our libraries’ bow helping residents around the borough to enjoy reading in an accessible and helpful way.”

The Order and Collect library service is available online at wirral.gov.uk/collect, or by calling the library team on 0151 929 7724.

When collecting items, separate entrances and exits will be marked, with a one-way system around the building and hand sanitising stations available. No toilet facilities will be available, except in emergencies. Visitors must bring their own bag with them and wear a face covering.

No other library services are available and the One Stop Shop and leisure centre remain closed.

The order and collect service is also available at Birkenhead Central Library.
