Councillors will meet next week to discuss whether to overturn a plan to extend parking charges to coastal areas including Hoylake and West Kirby.

Parking charges are set to be introduced at promenades across the borough, as well as at car parks, which are currently free to use.

Tariffs will cost £1 per hour, capped at £5 for all day.

Local community groups, including One West Kirby and Wonderful West Kirby, have objected to the plan claiming it will have a negative impact on the local economy. They have also expressed concern that visitors will over-run residential streets to avoid paying parking charges.

Councillors are set to meet on Tuesday, August 10 at 6pm. Details of the meeting are available here – https://democracy.wirral.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=917&MId=9278
