West Kirby schoolboy follows in footsteps of Olympic sailing stars

A 13-year-old schoolboy from West Kirby has scooped first place in a prestigious sailing competition.

Patrick Bromilow, who attends Calday Grange Grammar School, beat off stiff competition to win the Optimist National Championships, in Weymouth.

The competition has previously been won by Olympic sailing legends Ben Ainslie and Hannah Mills, the most successful female sailor in Olympic history.

The Optimist is a small, single-handed sailing dinghy for children up to the age of 15.

Patrick won a number of competitions at the event and his trophies will be on display at West Kirby Sailing Club, where he is a member.
