Caldy man charged with drug offences by Encrochat detectives

A man from Caldy has been charged with drug offences by police investigating the use of encrypted mobile devices, known as EncroChat.

Ryan Palin, aged 36, of Mereworth, appeared in court in Birkenhead last Friday and was remanded in custody accused of conspiracy to supply cocaine and amphetamines.

West Kirby Today has been told that there has been an ongoing police presence at the address since last Thursday.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “On Thursday 9 December, Ryan Palin, of Mereworth, Caldy, was charged with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs (cocaine) and Class B drugs (amphetamine).

“He was remanded into custody after appearing at Wirral Magistrates Court on Friday 10 December.

“Officers remain at an address on Mereworth today (Tuesday 14 December) while further enquiries are carried out.

“The charge forms part of the Merseyside Police response to Operation Venetic: a national investigation into the use of encrypted mobile devices, commonly referred to as Encrochat.”
