Work is starting to widen parts of the Wirral Way between West Kirby and Heswall.

It will see improvements to the following sections:

  • Sandy Lane Bridge to York Avenue Footpath (West Kirby)
  • Simons Bridge to Dawpool Nature Reserve access (Caldy/Thurstaston)
  • Delavor Road Bridge to Davenport Road (Lower Heswall)

The parts of the popular walking and cycling route chosen are among the narrowest, and Wirral Council says the scheme is designed to give users more room.

A spokesperson said: “The works being done within the Wirral Way Widening Scheme will enhance the natural environment, take into account the effects of climate change and make more room for visitors to continue to enjoy cycling and walking.”

The work is expected to be completed by spring.
