A man has been jailed and banned from entering several retail stores in West Kirby and Hoylake after committing multiple shoplifting offences.
Kyle Murphy, 37 years, of no fixed address, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Tuesday 17 February and pleaded guilty to eight counts of theft from stores.
He was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, issued with a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order and ordered to pay compensation.
This order bans him from entering any Boots store in Wirral, Morrisons on Dee Lane in West Kirby, and the Co-op on Market Street in Hoylake, or loiter outside the store until February 2031.
In addition, he is prohibited from entering Hoylake Road in Moreton – from the junction of Orchard Road to the junction of Francis Avenue.
The catalogue of offences committed by Murphy included concealing two boxes of football cards worth £175 in his jacket from Morrisons Daily on Manor Drive, then made no attempt to pay.
In another instance Murphy went into Boots Chemist on Hoylake Road and stole several items including charging cables, headphones, and a power bank to the value of £416. Again, he made no attempt to pay.
The serial shoplifter also stole more than £335 worth of beauty products such as face serum, lipstick, mascara and make-up from Boots on Foregate Street, Chester.
Local Policing Inspector Nicola Hughes said: “Murphy’s prolific shoplifting was mainly in West Kirby, Hoylake and Moreton, although he travelled further afield to Chester to thieve.
“Criminal Behaviour Orders continue to be an extremely effective tool and our successful application to amend in this case shows our commitment to dealing robustly with repeat offenders who have a negative impact on the communities we serve.
“If Murphy breaches this order following his release from prison then please report this to Merseyside Police.
“We hope this serves as a clear warning to others, that the force will robustly take steps to address prolific offenders, working with businesses and partners.”
