The celebrity chefs putting West Kirby and Hoylake on the foodie map

Last week, TV chef Simon Rimmer confirmed rumours that he was due to open a new gastropub in West Kirby.

But did you know he is not the only celebrity chef helping to put West Kirby and Hoylake on the foodie map?

We take a look at the other renowned chefs with an interest in the region.

Marco’s New York Italian, in Hoylake

This family-friendly New York Italian restaurant, based at the Holiday Inn, in King’s Gap, is backed by celebrity chef, Marco Pierre White. The menu is inspired by his Italian heritage and love for American/New York dishes.

It was launched in 2013 and had previously been the site of Frankie’s Bar and Grill, which was a joint venture with champion jockey Frankie Dettori.

West 34, West Kirby

The former home of Scogs, in Banks Road, is currently undergoing a makeover and will shortly become West 34.

New owners Billy and Victoria Preston are working with renowned chef Mark Broadbent to develop the new menu.

Mark’s illustrious career spans 28 years working in five star hotels and 2 star Michelin restaurants, including his tenure as head chef at London’s Bluebird Dining Room. He also starred in the BBC’s Great British Menu challenge winning the Regional Northern Champion position over world-renowned Marcus Wareing.

The Viking, West Kirby

Due to open in Summer 2016 on the site of The Hilltop pub, on Blackhorse Hill, this is TV chef Simon Rimmer’s latest offering.

It is thought the gastropub will follow a similar concept to his highly successful venue, The Elephant, in Woolton Village, Liverpool. The Viking and The Elephant are part of the Flying Pig & Lobster group, of which Simon is a director along with Roy Ellis and Neil McLeod, who also founded the Revolution chain of vodka bars.

The star of Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, who is originally from Wirral, also runs Greens, in Didsbury and Earle, in Hale with his wife Ali and friends, footballers Jason McAteer and Jason Koumas and football agent Dave Lockwood.
