A former pupil at Calday Grange Grammar School has been nominated for a prestigious Ivor Novello award.

Jack Patterson, who is a member of the band Clean Bandit, was nominated for Most Performed Work for co-writing Jess Glynne’s Hold My Hand.

Other nominees include Ed Sheeran, James Bay, Wolf Alice and Years & Years.

His former headteacher, Mr Mark Rodaway, said: “Calday Grange Grammar School is proud to have played a part in helping Jack’s creative talent to flourish.

“He was an outstanding student whilst at Calday and we wish him every success with this prestigious nomination.”

The 2016 nominations recognise songwriters and composers of works released in the UK during 2015.

The 61st Ivor Novello Awards [The Ivors] will take place on Thursday 19th May at the Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London. They are presented by BASCA [British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors] and are judged by the UK songwriting and composing community.  They have been sponsored by PRS for Music since 1974.

Stephen McNeff, BASCA Chairman, said: “The Ivors were created to celebrate the best in British and Irish songwriting and composing.  As we move into our 61st year BASCA is delighted that these nominations reflect the health and diversity of UK music and include a raft of first-time nominees alongside past winners.  Congratulations to everyone represented here today.”

Jack Patterson is a member of Grammy Award-winning band, Clean Bandit, with Grace Chatto and Neil Amin-Smith, who Jack met while studying at the University of Cambridge, alongside his brother Luke Patterson, who was also a pupil at Calday.

The band hit the big time in 2014 after releasing its hit single Rather Be, which debuted at number one and spent four weeks at the top of the charts as well as reaching number one in a further 13 countries.

It has racked up almost 400 million YouTube views and was the soundtrack for Marks & Spencer food advertisements.
