He said: “Mostly I’m able to shoot in all kinds of conditions. The only no go time is when it’s raining. Just the lightest drizzle means it’s time to pack up and wait for dry weather.

“I prefer to have some sort of drama happening in the clouds. Blue skies are OK but if you want a shot to really stand out get the clouds working for you.

“Other challenges that I might face when shooting a course are backgrounds. I’ve had to shoot courses where there’s construction work going on and with cranes in the background. If I have to take the shot I’ll take them out in post; in other words, I’ll remove them digitally.

“Pylons and electricity wires are another issue, so I don’t shoot them. Taking things like this out in post is, as far as I’m concerned, pushing the boundaries of reality too far.

“I love shooting links courses. At Hoylake the major challenge is its flatness, so getting the right light and angle is key to getting a great pic. When that doesn’t work I’ll stand on top of the buggy and get a bit of elevation. That normally does the trick.”

If you want to experience the course for real, the Royal Liverpool Golf Club welcomes visitors to its historic links. To find out more please visit www.royal-liverpool-golf.com
