Fun runs for children of all ages come to Hoylake this weekend

More than 300 youngsters are gearing up to take part in a fun run series in Hoylake this weekend.

The BTR Kids 1K 2K 3K Fun Run is returning for its second year, with the first run starting at 2pm on Sunday (September 4).

Last year’s inaugural event in New Brighton saw almost 300 youngsters, from small toddlers through to 14-year-olds, take part in a choice of 1K, 2K or 3K fun runs.

The event is staged by Hoylake-based leading race organisers BTR – who create and deliver many of Liverpool City Region’s headline running events, including the Mersey Tunnel 10K and Vitality Liverpool Half Marathon.

BTR Race Director Alan Rothwell explained: “With childhood obesity continually on the rise, we feel it’s important to give youngsters their own event and encourage them to get active. This is an ideal introduction to the sport, and the fun runs provide the perfect platform to give youngsters a taster and get them out into the fresh air.

“Come and join the fun, it’s going to be a fantastic family day out when the next generation of runners have their own day to shine.”

Event headquarters on the day is Hoylake Community Centre on North Parade, a short walk from Manor Road train station. The fun runs will take place on Hoylake Promenade.

The 1K starts at 2pm on Hoylake Promenade, followed by the 2K at 2.30pm and the 3K at 3pm. All youngsters will receive a T-shirt, finishers’ medal and goody bag. Entry is £8 per child per fun run. Parents can accompany their child during the fun run.

New for 2016 is the BTR Big Kids 5K for the grown-ups. It will take place after the children’s fun runs – making it a sporty event for all the family.

Youngsters aged 12 and over can take part in the 5K with parental consent. The 5K runners will receive a finishers’ medal and T-shirt. Entry is £10.

Next up in the BTR race calendar is the award winning Wirral 10K/Wirral Half Marathon on Sunday, September 11. The half marathon also forms part of the second annual 26-mile Whistle Stop Tour Of Wirral, a three-day race from Friday to Sunday ( September 9 to 11), with races also at Arrowe Park and Thurstaston.

To enter the races, go in person to the BTR offices at 82 Market Street, Hoylake, Wirral, CH47 3BD or enter online at www.btrliverpool.com
