Warnings as Storm Eunice set to hit our coast

Storm Eunice is expected to bring extremely strong winds to the Wirral coast on Friday.

Wind gusts of over 60mph are forecast in our coastal areas and exposed locations.

The Met Office has issued an Amber warning for West Kirby, which means there is likely to be significant disruption.

Wirral Council said Dee Lane and South Parade, in West Kirby, would be shut from 9.30am – 4pm as a precautionary measure but access will remain for residents and businesses.

Merseyrail also warned of possible disruption to services from midday and asked people not to travel unless necessary.

A spokesperson for Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team said: “These storm systems will be generating mainly Westerly on shore winds and coincide with Spring tides making conditions even more dangerous with possible storm surges.

“With expected tidal overtopping and large waves, coastal road closures will be in place at high tide in certain areas, particularly around West Kirby and New Brighton. Please respect the closures and don’t be tempted to get too close for photographs either on foot or in your vehicles.”
