Live gigs raised thousands of pounds for food banks

West Kirby Live’s weekend of music in aid of food banks raised almost £4,000.

Eight venues across the town took part in a three-day live music festival in December, with donations going to the Trussell Trust.

The grand total of £3,862.17 is in addition to another 400kgs of essential provisions donated.

In a statement on Facebook, organiser Tom Longman said: “West Kirby Live 2022 was always going to be different, I put this together to support our local food bank Wirral Food Bank as demand for their use has sadly increased during these difficult times. Requests for support from Trussell Trust Food Banks went up 100% in December 2022 compared to December 2021.

“I’d like to thank all the musicians who gave their time to perform over the weekend, thanks to the fantastic volunteers who ran around taking in donations at our venues, in particular thank you to Sian for her hard work volunteering before and during the weekend and to Joe for keeping things running at multiple venues, battling faulty mic stands and finding guitar leads! Thank you to the staff at the venues for their work keeping us all well hydrated!”

West Kirby Tap, The White Lion, Grand Ave, The Wro Bar Loft, LEAF West Kirby, West Kirby Arts Centre, West Kirby Social Club and Wild Inn all took part.
