Tickets are available for a lecture which will take people behind the scenes of preparations for the Open Golf championship at the Royal Liverpool Golf Course.
Staging the event – one of the world’s biggest annual sporting spectaculars – is a project planning masterpiece which sees host Royal Liverpool Golf Club transformed, and Hoylake and West Kirby readied to host tens of thousands of visitors and VIPs, for a week of practice and Championship play at the famous links course.
For the final meeting of its 2022/23 Season, Deeside Lecture Society welcomes Andrew Duff, Assistant Director, the R&A, and the person responsible for transforming the course ready to welcome the world’s best players, patrons, guests, supporters, international media, and fans from around the world.
His lecture will give a unique insight into how the Open “happens” at Hoylake, and the logistical challenge of building the huge infrastructure required to support the event.
With contractors set to go on site at Hoylake, this special presentation will go behind the scenes as preparations begin.
“We are delighted to welcome the R&A to the finale of our Season,” said a spokesman for Deeside Lecture Society.
”The Lecture will give a great insight into what’s required to bring a massive global event to life on the Wirral coast.
“We are looking forward to a fascinating glimpse of how it happens on our doorstep.”
The lecture takes place at 7.30pm on Thursday 2 March at the United Reformed Church, Meols Drive, West Kirby.
