The White Lion pub to launch curry and beer night

The White Lion pub in West Kirby is launching a weekly curry and a pint night.

The famous hostelry on Grange Road, well known for its real ale culture and old-world charm, began serving hot food for the first time in its 200-year history in 2021 when it established a partnership with the Bamboo Thai restaurant group.

From just £10, starting on 31 January, customers will be able to enjoy a choice of a fragrant green, red, yellow, massaman or Penang curry, choosing from vegetable or vegan, chicken, pork, beef or prawn, served with jasmine rice and a pint of their favourite beer or a medium glass of wine. Alternatively, customers can choose a no-or-low alcohol or soft drink.

The White Lion’s owner, Andy Cockram, who also owns the Irby Mill, said: “A curry and a pint has a great ring to it, because it’s a truly delicious combination. I know our customers already appreciate having amazing Thai food available here and this special offer is sure to help bring some much needed warmth and cheer to these cold evenings.”

Bamboo Thai is owned and operated by Wirral couple, Dave Otter and Pam Anuniwat who opened Bamboo Thai in Woodside in July 2020, and in 2022 opened a restaurant on Hoylake Road in Moreton. They also formerly part-owned the Khao Soi restaurant in Hoylake.

Pam, originally from Thailand and who has been living on the Wirral for more than 20 years, said: “Since opening our kitchen in the White Lion, their loyal customers have become ours, making us so welcome with great feedback on our food to the extent that we really feel part of the pub’s enduring appeal. This is another exciting step in our partnership.”

The Curry and a Pint Night starts on Wednesday, January 31 from 5 – 9pm and every following Wednesday. The regular menu is available on Thursdays & Fridays 5 – 9pm; Saturday 3 – 7pm; and Sunday 1 – 7pm.
