There will be changes to public services over the festive period.
We’ve listed some of the alterations below.
Bin collections
For households who usually have their green and grey bins collected on Wednesday and Thursdays, the collection day changes will be as follows:
Wednesday 25 December – collection on Saturday 21 December
Thursday 26 December – collection on Sunday 22 December
Wednesday 1 January – collection on Saturday 28 December
Residents are advised to put their bin out by 7am as it could be emptied earlier than normal.
There will be no garden waste collection from Friday 20 December until Tuesday 21 January due to the annual shutdown period.
Merseyrail
Christmas Eve (Tuesday 24 December) and New Year’s Eve (Tuesday 31 December)
Services will finish early with the last train from West Kirby to Liverpool at 20.01 and the final service from Moorfields to West Kirby departing at 20.31.
Christmas Day (Wednesday 25 December)
No services will run.
Boxing Day (Thursday 26 December)
Trains will run every half hour from West Kirby from 09.01 to 18.01, calling only at Leasowe, Birkenhead North, Conway Park, James Street and Liverpool Central.
Return services will leave Liverpool Central every 30 minutes from 09.43 to 18.43.
New Year’s Day (Wednesday 1 January)
There will be a Sunday service, with trains every 30 minutes.
Buses
Christmas Eve (Tuesday 24 December) and New Year’s Eve (Tuesday 31 December)
Arriva services will finish early between 18.00 and 20.00, and Stagecoach between 17.00 and 19.00.
Christmas Day (Wednesday 25 December)
There will be no services to and from West Kirby.
Boxing Day (Thursday 26 December)
The Arriva 437 service to and from Liverpool will run every 15 minutes between circa. 08.00 and 18.00.
New Year’s Day (Wednesday 1 January)
The Arriva 437 service to and from Liverpool will run every 30 minutes between circa. 09.00 and 17.00
West Kirby Concourse leisure centre
The centre closes at 16.00 on Christmas Eve, reopening on Friday 27 December.
It will close at 4pm on New Year’s Eve, reopening on Thursday 2 January.
Wirral Watersports Centre
The centre will be closed from Christmas Day up to and including New Year’s Day.
