Tide times plea following Hilbre rescue

A warning has been issued to check tide times after two people were rescued by the RNLI when they were cut off by the tide between Middle Eye and Little Eye.

The incident happened this morning, with the Coastguard and West Kirby lifeboat scrambled following a 999 call.

Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team said: “Coastguard Control maintained phone communication and advised the casualties to stay on the rocks until the Lifeboat arrived, as moving posed greater risk.

“RNLI West Kirby Lifeboat launched promptly and safely recovered both casualties back to shore.”

They added: “Please check tide times, and aim to leave Hilbre Island at least 3 hours before high tide.”

Following the incident, they also spotted what appeared to be an inflatable between Hilbre Island and Bird Island, but upon investigation it turned out to be two paddle boarders who had appropriate safety equipment and were safe and well.
