A 16 year-old boy injured in a hit-and run-accident in Grange Road, West Kirby tonight is in a critical condition in hospital, police have confirmed.
Police are hunting the driver of a small silver car which hit the boy in the road near the Wro bar and restaurant after reportedly speeding through the town centre, just after 7pm. The car drove off towards Hoylake.
The boy suffered serious head injuries, and was given emergency treatment by paramedics at the scene before being transferred to the Walton Centre in Liverpool, where his condition remained “critical” late tonight.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Mahon said: “At this stage of the investigation the full circumstances of the incident are still being established but one line of enquiry is that the car had been driven at speed prior to the collision.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who may have seen a small silver car being driven in the area before or after 7pm to come forward.
“The vehicle may have sustained damage as a result of the collision and may have been parked up or even abandoned. Anyone who has seen such a vehicle is urged to contact us straight away.”
Grange Road is closed from its junction with Bridge Road to the junction with Orrysdale Road and at the junction with Dee Lane. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Local resident John Locke, who witnessed the aftermath of the accident, told West Kirby Today: “I saw 15 to 20 people standing around a boy lying in the road. All the traffic was being diverted by pedestrians.
“A short while after I could hear all the sirens from the ambulances.”
