A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with last night’s hit and run accident in Grange Road, West Kirby.
Merseyside Police say he is being held on suspicion of drink driving, failing to stop and causing serious injury through dangerous driving.
A silver Vauxhall Corsa car has been recovered from Harrington Avenue, in Hoylake, in connection with the accident, which has left a 16-year-old boy in a critical condition.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “Merseyside Police can confirm that detectives have today arrested a man in connection with a fail to stop RTC, which occurred in Grange Road, West Kirby yesterday evening, Saturday 25 March.
“Following extensive enquiries, a 21-year-old man from Hoylake has been arrested this morning on suspicion of failing to stop, causing serious injury through dangerous driving, and drink driving.
“He has been taken into custody and will be questioned later today by detectives.
“The vehicle involved, a silver Vauxhall Corsa, was located in Harrington Avenue and has been forensically recovered.”
The boy was struck by a small, silver car in Grange Road, near the Wro bar and restaurant just after 7pm last night, and suffered serious head injuries.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to the Walton Centre in Liverpool, where his condition was described as “critical”.
The road was closed to traffic for several hours as police and forensics experts from the scientific support unit examined the scene of the accident, but has reopened this morning.
Police are working on the theory that the car may have been speeding just before the accident. It drove away in the direction of Hoylake.
The name of the injured boy has not yet been released by police.
