In an interesting twist on the classic “tail” of a firefighter rescuing a cat from a tree, a local fire crew has rescued a pedigree cat which was stuck in a sink.
Emergency services were called to a house in Column Road, West Kirby, on Sunday evening after the cat, called Kot Bayun Basja, got his paw stuck in a plug hole.
Owner Anna Alcock said: “I was washing him in the sink and his paw got stuck. We tried to free him but we couldn’t get him out.
“My children were getting very distressed and we didn’t know what to do so I called the fire brigade. His foot was swollen so they tried to use oil, soap and ice to free him but it would not work.
“They had to use tools to get him out. I am so grateful to them, the cat is very good now, he is happy and eating and going for walks.”
Fire crews eventually managed to release the stuck cat using wire cutters and pliers.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said: “Firefighters released a cat’s paw from a plug hole at a property on Column Road in West Kirby around 10.24pm on Sunday, April 10.
“One fire engine attended the incident, where a male cat had trapped his back right paw in the plug hole of the kitchen sink.
“Fire crews used wire cutters and pliers to release the cat, who was unharmed. They remained at the scene for around 30 minutes.”
The eight-month-old cat is named after a famous Russian fairytale, about a clever cat who puts people to sleep by telling stories.
