Schoolgirl Lonnie Williams was the inspiration behind a business which could transform the bedrooms of children throughout the country.

The eight-year-old budding gardener begged her Mum, busy parent to four girls, Rachel Williams, to give her room a ’wildlife’ makeover, bringing the outside in.

Frustrated by the cost and effort of importing the only bespoke children’s wallpaper available from the USA, Rachel set up her own business – Rachie B.

Now the West Kirby-based Mum offers a unique range of designs for homes and nurseries, in addition to flooring, curtains, bed linen, furnishings, doors and wardrobes.

Rachel said: “I really wanted to give Lonnie the room of her dreams but it was way too expensive to import a country garden-themed wallpaper from America for her.

“Once I had done all my research and found high quality, low cost suppliers, I knew I had a potential business.  I was confident other parents would want a custom-made space for their own children, without spending a fortune.”

The company has been a success and Rachel has added a commercial division to cater for businesses like nurseries and restaurants who want to create their own individual look.

Parents can chose from a range of appealing and durable designs on offer, in high quality wallpaper, deliberately created so they are easy to hang. Adaptions could include the names of children and their families, changing the background to a favourite colour or moving characters to accommodate an area or wall.

To add to the distinctive theme, Rachie B can even print directly onto a wardrobe or door, provide one-off vinyl flooring or glass or tiles.

Rachel said: “Our designs are flexible and have been used in bedrooms and play areas at home, in addition to a variety of uses by businesses who want to create a unique backdrop.”

Thanks to Rachie B, green fingered Lonnie got her room and hopes to follow in her mum’s footsteps and join the business as a designer.
