Rescue drama as couple’s car crashes into West Kirby Marine Lake

A couple escaped unhurt after accidentally driving a car into West Kirby Marine Lake this evening.

The drama unfolded just before 10pm after the couple’s car ran into the lake near to West Kirby Sailing Club, at Sandy Lane.

A major rescue was sparked involving Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team, West Kirby RNLI, Merseyside Fire & Rescue, North West Ambulance Service and Merseyside Police.

The couple managed to escape from the car unhurt and the emergency services were left to pull the submerged vehicle from the lake.

According to eye witnesses at the scene, the car appeared to drive into the lake accidentally although it is unclear exactly how the incident unfolded.

The man and woman refused medical treatment at the scene.

No one was injured during the incident and emergency services left the scene just before 11pm.
