Work is underway on a new outlet of the sandwich chain Subway in West Kirby.

The shop, which will be based on the site of the former Coral betting shop, on Banks Road, is currently undergoing a refit.

The store is advertising a number of new local jobs and a statement on the Subway websites says the new store will be opening soon, although there is no date specified.

The announcement comes as two other local businesses announce their closure.

Curio, also on Banks Road, which is ranked as one of the top ten restaurants in West Kirby on Trip Advisor, announced it was to shut with a simple statement posted in its window.

One Trip Advisor reviewer wrote: “Sad times. Curio has closed for business. I have spent many happy hours eating and drinking at this venue. Really sad to hear that it no longer exists.”

ButterCup Cakes, in Crescent Walk, has also closed its shop but will continue to trade as an online business.

A statement from the business owner said: ‘It is with sad regret that ButterCup Cakes has closed.

‘I would like to thank all of my lovely customers over the last year for your support and friendship. If you have ordered a cake, I will be in touch regarding your order and delivery.

‘We are still available to make cakes for you, be it cup cakes, slicing cakes or celebration cakes but these will now be purely to order.’
