A workman was released home tonight, just hours after being airlifted to hospital by helicopter after a wall collapsed on a construction site in West Kirby.
The man was working on a new site alongside Redcliff, a five bedroomed detached home being built opposite Calday Grange Grammar School, in Grammar School Lane, when the wall fell on him, causing him head and leg injuries.
The North West Ambulance Service was alerted just before 10.45am, and an air ambulance helicopter was scrambled. The helicopter touched down in the grounds of the school and the workman was transferred aboard and flown to Aintree University Hospital.
Site owner and property developer Juliet Boulton told West Kirby Today later: “He was working on the site next door to Redcliff. It is on the side of a quarry and we have to dig down to find bedrock to stabilise everything.
“As we dug in we put in a shoring wall, and it is that wall that gave way. All the team on the site have full first aid training, and the ambulance team said the immediate attention they gave him stopped his injuries being any worse.
“He is back at home now with nothing worse than a cut on his head. The Good Lord must have been smiling down on us.”
Merseyside Police confirmed that the incident had been referred to them as an industrial accident, and was being reported to the Health and Safety Executive.
The architect-designed house is due to be sold for £629,000, through Bradshaw Farnham and Lea estate agents.
