Building work is underway on the Hilbre Pub in West Kirby after its shock closure in September.
The well-known Banks Road pub is currently closed but appears to be undergoing a major refurbishment.
Owners, Punch Taverns, are remaining tight-lipped over mounting rumours that the pub is set to become a restaurant.
A spokesperson for Punch Taverns said: “We are still in negotiations with a potential publican with regards to the Hilbre. However, we hope to have the pub open and trading as soon as possible”.
Last week, Punch Taverns announced an investment of £70,000 at the Lady Hamilton pub, in Little Neston, which has been taken over by Heswall couple, Chris and Vicky Garland.
