It was a busy Sunday for the emergency services as they rescued two stranded teenagers and a sick seal from Hilbre Island – in separate incidents.
Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team were paged to reports of an injured Common Seal pup at around 10.25am on Sunday.
The team, along with British Divers Marine Life Rescue, recovered the pup and transported it to RSPCA Stapeley for treatment.
A few hours later, shortly after 5pm, HM Coastguard requested the launch of the West Kirby RNLI inshore Lifeboat to rescue two teenagers stuck on Hilbre Island.
The teenagers, an 18 year old man and a fifteen year old girl, had been cut off by the incoming tide. Although cold and wet the two casualties did not require any medical attention.
Lifeboat Operations Manager Dave Henshaw stated that it is most important when visiting the Island to check the tidal information beforehand and to take warm clothing and refreshment, particularly this early in the year.
