The northbound carriageway of the M53 was being reopened at 5pm today, as police continue to investigate an incident which led to a man’s body being found on the central reservation last night.
The southbound carriageway remained closed, although the Wallasey tunnel was open with diversions in operation.

The motorway was closed in both directions between Upton and Woodchurch as soon as the alarm was raised by passing motorists, and remained closed throughout the morning rush hour and into this afternoon.
Police are urging the public not to contact them directly about the traffic situation. They are posting updates on their Twitter account @MerseyPolice and on the force website and Facebook page.
In the meantime they advise southbound motorists to continue to use alternative routes.
