There is severe disruption across our region as Storm Doris grips Wirral with gusts of over 70mph.
West Kirby Concourse was closed by the council just before lunchtime due to significant storm damage to the roof and the Wirral Way was partially blocked near Ashton Park with fallen trees.
Trains were subject to delay on the Wirral Line due to debris blowing onto the track and the southbound approach to the Wallasey tunnel (M53 to the Kingsway Tunnel) was closed.
A spokesperson for Wirral Council said there were five crews of tree contractors working around Wirral dealing with reports of fallen trees and refuse contractors, were clearing up the streets, even reporting having to move a trampoline, which had blown into the road.
The spokesperson added: “We advise listening to local weather forecasts and being prepared to change your plans if disruption to transport and travel is expected.”
Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team also issued a warning via its Facebook page to stay away from the coast during the storm.
A statement said: “Please avoid exposed coastal areas during times of severe weather and don’t take any risks for photos, videos or a selfie! A new profile photo for social media isn’t worth risking your life for.
“If you think you see someone in danger or in difficulty out at sea or on the coast always call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
Wirral Council said it would be keeping its Wirral View website updated with the latest information on Storm Doris.
