A Hoylake schoolboy spent three years growing his hair to make wigs for children who have lost their own through illness.
Toby Wheeler, a year six pupil at Holy Trinity Primary, took to his school playground last week in front of teachers and fellow pupils to have his impressive locks cut off.
Wirral West MP Margaret Greenwood was invited to cut the first braid, before hairdresser Claire Whiteley from Oasis Hair Design stepped in to finish the job.
More than 200 of Toby’s fellow pupils chanted his name as they watched his distinctive tresses disappear.
Toby’s hair will be given to the Little Princess Trust, a children’s cancer charity whose mission it is to supply real hair wigs to children across the UK and Ireland who need them.
As well as donating his hair, Toby has raised over £700 for the charity.
Toby said: “My hair feels much lighter and I’m thinking about giving skydiving a go next.”
Margaret Greenwood MP said: “I was delighted to be asked to play a part in the cutting of Toby’s hair. He is a real inspiration to the other children in his school who were all very excited to watch proceedings in the playground.
“The money Toby has raised and the beautiful hair he is donating will be very much appreciated by the Little Princess Trust and all of those who will benefit.”
