Local sports groups and businesses are rallying together to help raise money to buy a prosthetic leg for a West Kirby rugby player who lost his leg after a terrible accident.
Billy Woof, 24, dislocated his knee while playing for Birkenhead Park Rugby Club against Penrith in April but due to complications, the player sadly had to have his lower leg amputated at his mid knee.
His friends, family, local businesses and Birkenhead Park Rugby Club have already raised almost £9000 towards a specialist sports prosthetic leg, which costs around £25,000.
Now, The Wro is set to host its own fundraising event with The Big Step Forward on Bank Holiday Monday.
The event, which costs only £5 for entry, will take place from 3pm-late across all The Wro venues, on Grange Road, and will include live music, celebrity sport guests, big prize raffle, hog roast BBQ and top prize auction.
Billy, who has set up his own blog, My Amputation Journey, to document his recovery, wrote: “So since coming home I have started physio twice a week at the Clatterbridge limb centre.
“This is to get my body fully ready and prepared for my prosthetic leg. In regards to the prosthetic leg everything is looking good and I’m feeling stronger and stronger each day, once all my scarring on the leg is healed I should be casted for my leg which is really exciting as there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel now.”
