West Kirby United Wasps girls’ team have kicked off the football season in style with their brand new team kit after help from the This Girl Can Wirral campaign.
The under 16 footballers had been struggling to find enough funds to buy a new kit in time for the start of the season.
The team’s manager Neil Holding contacted This Girl Can Wirral for help.
The campaign, which aims to encourage more girls in Wirral to take part in sport, was able to provide some sponsorship for the team, so they could get their kit in time for the new season.
The girls from the team attended a photoshoot at The Yog Bar, in Hoylake, to unveil their new kit and looked the part ready to take on the new season.
Cllr Bernie Mooney , Cabinet Member for Children and Families said: “We want to help teenage girls in Wirral combat barriers which prevent them from taking part in sports or activities. This Girl Can in Wirral is aiming to help overcome some of these.
“West Kirby Wasps were struggling to get a kit ready to start their new season, which could have made them feel less confident about competing. It’s great to see and hear how pleased the team are with their new kit thanks to the sponsorship.”
