Farmers are predicting a bumper crop of giant pumpkins this year thanks to almost perfect weather conditions over the summer months.

Farm workers at Church Farm, in Wirral, discovered that their pumpkins were much bigger than they expected several weeks ago.

Every year, the award-winning farm, which has been run by former firefighter Steve Ledsham and his family for the past 24 years, grows over 2000 organic pumpkins as part of it popular Halloween extravaganza.

Steve said: “Our team noticed a few weeks ago that the pumpkins were a lot bigger than previous years.

“Over the summer months we had a lot of wet and warm weather, which has meant perfect growing conditions for pumpkins.

“I think we are going to have some absolute whoppers by the time they are ready to harvest in early October.”
