Following the bomb squad being called out to West Kirby a man has admitted making explosives and pointing a gun at another man.

Andrew Gosling was arrested after police were called to Victoria Road on September 29 last year after a motorist was threatened with a handgun.

Officers discovered a suspicious device and roads including Leigh Road and Darmonds Green were cordoned off and people, including pensioners in a block of flats, were evacuated from their homes before a controlled explosion was carried out by the bomb squad.

52-year-old Gosling has pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court to two offences of making explosives and two of possessing explosives.

At an earlier hearing he admitted possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence as well as possessing another firearm and ammunition.

Gosling, of Ley Croft in Hatton, Derby, appeared via video-link from Walton jail  and Judge Alan Conrad, QC, heard that a psychiatric report was not yet completed.

The judge further adjourned the case until February 16 and Gosling was further remanded in custody.
