The West Kirby branch of Aldi has re-opened following refurbishment.
The German firm says the new-look store – which was closed for four days while fitters installed new shelving, chillers and freezers – will ‘improve customers’ convenience and overall shopping experience’, and allows products to be found more easily.
Shoppers will find more space has been devoted to meat products, while the bakery and off licence sections have been moved.
Manager Amanda Gavin said: “The store is looking fantastic, and we can’t wait to welcome our loyal customers back so they can see it for themselves.”
It is almost a decade since Aldi first announced it wanted to build the store on Bridge Road, providing a local alternative to the nearby Morrisons.
But the plan for the site, which was previously a petrol station and council car park, wasn’t met with universal approval.
Objections made to the council’s planning committee by some residents in 2009 led to a local newspaper headline suggesting West Kirby was ‘too posh’ for the value supermarket chain.
However, since opening it has proved popular, with shoppers struggling to find a space in the car park at peak times.
The store employs 22 people and Aldi says the refurbishment has created an additional job.
