Two masked men robbed a security officer in broad daylight in front of shocked shoppers at Aldi on Monday morning.

The men, who both had their faces covered, stormed the man as he was delivering cash to the West Kirby store at around 10.30am.

They demanded the security guard give them the cash box but the bungling robbers then left the scene without the box and drove off along Bridge Road towards Grange Road.

Police said that although the guard was not injured he was left very shaken.

Detective Inspector Siobhan Gainer said: “Robberies of security guards are not victimless crimes and it is unacceptable for this guard to be subjected to this ordeal while he was just trying to carry out his job.

“We are carrying out a number of enquiries in the area including the examination of CCTV and forensic enquiries.”
