People using public toilets in West Kirby and Hoylake will have to pay 30 pence from this March.
Wirral Council is introducing a charge to help pay for the management, maintenance and operating of the facilities.
The local authority says the fee will assist in meeting its commitment to keeping public toilets across the borough open, as an alternative to closure.
Cabinet Member for Environment Councillor Anita Leech said, “Last year, Councillors chose to introduce charges to public toilets in a bid to avoid closures.
“Councils are not required by law to provide any public toilets, however, because we recognise their importance to our communities, introducing charges was the only way we could continue to provide this facility.”
The fee will be introduced at West Kirby Marine Lake and Hoyle Road in Hoylake from March 4, as well as at Moreton Garden Lane, Leasowe Common and Harrison Drive.
Meters will accept 10p and 20p coins, with no change given – although West Kirby will have a contactless payment turnstile, enabling people to pay using their bank card.
The toilets at West Kirby Marine Lake will close this coming week while the turnstile is installed.
Payment charges will be rolled out to the other public toilets in Wirral during further phases of work.
