Following the announcement that the current GP contract for TG Medical Centre, in West Kirby, will not being renewed, we’ve been contacted by many concerned patients.
Here are some answers to your questions (but let us know if there is anything we have missed).
Is the surgery closing?
The building, on Grange Road, will remain open and will be taken over by Marine Lake Medical Centre staff. The name of the surgery will change.
What will happen on April 1st?
The responsibility for your care will automatically transfer to the doctors & nursing team from Marine Lake Medical Practice. Their GP’s and nurses will have full access to your medical records
Will the staff change?
The current doctors from TG Medical Surgery are moving to Hoylake and Meols Medical Centre. The admin/reception team will remain.
What should you do if you wish to remain with your current GP?
As stated above, the current doctors from TG Medical Surgery are moving to Hoylake and Meols Medical Centre. If you wish to move too, you will need to fill in a registration form, which is available at the reception at TG Medical Centre.
Are Marine Lake Medical Centre taking on any extra staff?
Marine Lake Medical Centre hasn’t specified numbers but say they will be “adding to our current GP, Nurse and support team members”.
They currently have 14 GP’s, 7 nurses including nurse practitioners & dedicated nursing/care home nurse, 3 health care assistants, 1 practice pharmacist along with administration and support staff.
What services do Marine Lake Medical Centre provide?
- Dedicated chronic disease management clinics including diabetes, heart disease, dementia & asthma to name but a few.
- Dedicated travel vaccinations clinic, baby clinic, childhood immunisations, wound dressings, minor surgeries and joint injections are also offered.
- A respected training practice with trainee doctors, nurses and medical students who are closely supervised and supported by the team.
- Good patient access to appointments above NHS guidance with evening and weekend appointments available for more flexibility and convenience, 1100+ appointments offered weekly including advanced & urgent book on the day

What do TG Medical Centre say?
In a letter to patients, Dr Navaid Alam, senior partner at TG Medical Centre, wrote: “It is with greatest sadness and disappointment that we are writing to inform you that NHS England have made the decision to award the APMS contract being provided from TG Medical Centre to Marine Lake Medical Centre, who will be taking over the running of the contract from the 1st April 2019.”
