Police are scouring CCTV footage for clues in the hunt for thieves who forced their way into a West Kirby pub and stole takings.

The Tap on Grange Road was targeted by a four-strong gang at about 4am this morning.

They ransacked the safe and made off with Monday’s bar takings.

Manager Annie Kelly said: “They broke in through the back door with a crow bar, then they smashed through the cellar door and into the office where they smashed the safe to bits and stole the float and one day’s take.

“Thankfully they left the crow bar behind & we have great CCTV that the police have been reviewing all morning. Fingers crossed they catch them.”

Regulars have been posting messages of goodwill on the popular real ale pub’s Facebook page after management shared details of the robbery.
