Planning is well under way to make sure West Kirby is lit up this festive season.

Fundraising for West Kirby Christmas Lights has been taking place since spring, under the stewardship of new chair Rachel Kehoe, who became involved last year.

She told us: “We have a new and enthusiastic committee this year. We started our fundraising in April with the first of our Morrison’s bag packs.

“We’ve had three bag packs to date with two more planned and are always looking for more volunteers to help at those events. They are great fun and the more helpers we have the more we raise.”

This year the team have extended the street collections and have more volunteers on board to distribute envelopes.

Businesses are also being encouraged to sponsor lamp posts and trees, with sponsors getting a credit on the lights they have paid for and on West Kirby Today’s Facebook page.

Rachel added: “We are very excited to have an enthusiastic group of volunteers for West Kirby Christmas Lights and have real ambitions to extend and improve the lights.

“Our fundraising year has got off to a great start but there is still a lot to do. We are really looking forward to working with the community to make West Kirby shine even brighter this Christmas.”

The lights switch-on will take place on Saturday 23 November, with more details to be announced in due course.
