Hoylake municipal golf course and Wirral Sailing Centre in West Kirby will remain temporarily closed while Wirral Council looks at how to implement new coronavirus guidance from the government.
Changes in the lockdown which come into effect on Wednesday 13 May allow for people to “use outdoor sports courts or facilities, such as a tennis or basketball court, or golf course – with members of your household, or one other person while staying 2 metres apart.”
In a statement on social media, the local authority said: “All Wirral Council’s golf courses, and the sailing centre will remain closed temporarily.”
It adds: “We have been reviewing the detail from Central Government on reopening certain services.
“We are working hard behind the scenes to get everything ready, as quickly as we can, while keeping the safety of our staff, residents and customers at the heart of what we do.
“Please bear with us while we do this work and look out for updates on our website, social media and information at each site. We will look forward to welcoming you back as soon as we can.”
The privately run Caldy Golf Club will reopen to players on Wednesday, although the clubhouse remains closed.
In line with government guidance, up to two members from different households will be able to play together as long as they observe social distancing measures, while up to three members of the same household can play together.
General manager Richard Beswick has written an open letter to members on Facebook thanking them for their “support and good wishes during what has been an extremely difficult period for all concerned”.
He adds: “In particular, I must pay tribute to our Green staff who under the stewardship of Carl Crocher, our Course Manager, have worked within all the guidelines provided to them in an attempt to keep our facility in as good a condition as possible during this period.”
Royal Liverpool Golf Course is also reopening to members on Wednesday.
